3rd Dan Black Belt                                                                             Head Instructor

ITF Instructors Licence Number 202027

I strongly believe in the Taekwon-Do philosophy that when a student reaches Black Belt it is their turn to give back to the club and to the ITFNZ organisation.  I demonstrate this personally by my level of commitment to the ITFNZ and to my club students.  I have represented the Counties Manukau region at the Nationals Tournament on a number of occasions.  I have been involved in organising Taekwon-Do tournaments and seminars, taken part in many Taekwon-Do events as well as being an official at numerous tournaments.

I am married with two children who are both Taekwon-Do practioners.  My wife, Kim, is heavily involved with the club doing all the administration side of things  as well as helping out at the clubs as often as possible.

I believe in the original Taekwon-Do as founded by General Choi Hong Hi.  I believe in working hard and having fun while doing so and that it is important to follow our Tenets and Oath both inside the do-jang and in our lives outside.

Assistant Instructors:

Mr Dave McCorkindale + #

2nd Dan Black Belt

Mr McCorkindale started training in the art of Taekwon-Do in the early ninties with the now Master Rocky Rounthwaite and then he had a rest for a few years! He is now back and committed to our Botany Taekwon-Do club and we are grateful for the time, energy and enthusiasm that he gives to us all.

Mr Callum Barber                                                                                                  2nd Dan Black Belt

Mr Barber has previously been the Instructor of a club in this area then took a break to spend more family time with his wife and young children.  Two of his children now train at this club and Mr Barber has kindly agreed to take on an Assistant Instructor role in spite of a very busy family and work life.  We all benefit from the knowledge and experience that he is happy to share with us.

Mr Ryan Butchers                                                                                                  1st Gup

Ryan is our eldest son and attends Howick College.  He has been training since 2003 and has represented Counties Manukau region in both patterns and sparring at the annual Nationals Tournament.  He is enjoying the opportunity to demonstrate his teaching skills in this club and in being a positive teenage role-model for the younger children.

Mr Nathan Butchers                                                                                                   2nd Gup

Nathan is our youngest son and attends Howick College. Nathan has been training for since 2003 and has represented the Counties Manukau region in sparring at the annual Nationals Tournament.  Nathan has a natural teaching ability with young children and this club gives him the opportunity to demonstrate it.  Being closer in age to some of the children he is able to be a positive role-model as a young Taekwon-Do practioner.
